TEACHING PRACTICE : WEEK 5
Teaching Practice – Week Five Reflection
Week Five of my teaching practice at G.V.H.S.S Kadakkal was an eventful blend of academics, celebrations, and responsibilities. The days were filled with activities that highlighted the spirit of the school — from the excitement of elections and the pride of Independence Day to the joy of classroom learning. It was a week that beautifully balanced teaching, teamwork, and school culture.
Day 21 – Thursday, 14 August 2025
The day began with great excitement as the school parliament election was held. I reached school on time, signed the register, and prepared for the day’s busy schedule. In the morning, students voted in their respective classes to elect class leaders, and we B.Ed trainees helped in organizing the process smoothly. During the fourth period, I conducted a diagnostic test for my students to assess their understanding and identify areas of improvement. My fellow trainees assisted in maintaining discipline during the test.
Later, during the sixth period, I continued the lesson “The Day My World Changed” using ICT tools. The students were enthusiastic, actively participated in discussions, and worked well in groups. Their eagerness made the classroom atmosphere lively and engaging. The day reminded me how schools are not just centers of learning but also of leadership and democracy — a place where students begin to understand responsibility and teamwork.
Day 22 – Friday, 15 August 2025
This day was truly special — Independence Day. I reached the school early and joined the celebrations as a volunteer along with my fellow B.Ed trainees. The program began with flag hoisting, followed by speeches, patriotic songs, Pushparchana, and cultural performances. The energy and pride among students were heartwarming. As part of the day’s events, we B.Ed trainees organized and conducted a quiz competition in the auditorium. The participation and enthusiasm of the students made the event a grand success.
The celebrations concluded with a patriotic rally that filled the campus with color, joy, and national spirit. It was a day that made me feel deeply connected to the school community. Seeing students express their love for the country reminded me that education also nurtures values, unity, and patriotism.
Day 23 – Saturday, 16 August 2025
Even though it was a working Saturday, the spirit of learning remained high. I reached school on time, signed the register, and prepared for my lessons. During the third period, I continued the prose lesson “The Day My World Changed” using ICT. The visuals and digital aids helped students connect more deeply with the theme of the story. Their active participation in group activities reflected their genuine interest.
As exams were approaching, I spent extra time helping students review question models and guiding them in their preparation. I also completed my lunch duty and assisted in substitution classes, keeping students engaged in constructive learning. Supporting students in their exam preparation helped me understand their different learning needs and the importance of patience and encouragement in guiding them.
Day 24 – Monday, 8 September 2025
After the weekend break, I returned refreshed and ready for a new week. Following the morning assembly, I attended the allotted classes and carried out my duties. During the sixth period, I continued teaching “The Day My World Changed.” The students were attentive and interested. They observed the ICT visuals carefully, participated in the group task, and neatly copied the glossary and answers in their notebooks.
In the free periods, I used my time to complete pending records and prepare lesson plans for the upcoming classes. The use of ICT tools continued to prove effective in sustaining students’ interest and helping them understand abstract concepts more concretely.
Day 25 – Tuesday, 9 September 2025
The final day of the week was filled with academic focus and reflective tasks. I continued with “The Day My World Changed” during the first and sixth periods. Students actively participated, engaged in group discussions, and responded enthusiastically.
Alongside my teaching duties, I assisted in maintaining discipline in other classes and helped distribute Onam exam answer sheets to students with Unni Sir. I also used my free time productively to complete pending work and lesson preparations. Today emphasized how consistency and preparation are essential in teaching. Seeing students’ progress through their exam results was a rewarding experience.
Week Five beautifully blended academic learning, national pride, and leadership experiences. From conducting the school election to celebrating Independence Day, and from teaching lessons to helping students prepare for exams, each day added depth to my journey as a teacher trainee.
The week taught me that education is not confined to textbooks alone — it thrives in every event, every interaction, and every small responsibility that shapes both the student and the teacher. As the teaching practice moved forward, I felt more rooted in the classroom, more confident in my teaching methods, and more connected to the heart of the school community.
