TEACHING PRACTICE: WEEK 2

Teaching Practice – Week Two

The second week of my teaching practice at G.V.H.S.S Kadakkal felt more engaging and dynamic than the first. By now, the school environment, teachers, and students had all started to feel familiar — almost like a second home. Each day brought a new experience, helping me grow both as a teacher and as a learner.

Day 6 – Friday, 25 July 2025

The day began as usual — signing the attendance register and getting ready for the classes ahead. During my period, I distributed the notes I had prepared for the poem and collected the students’ notebooks for correction. Reviewing their work gave me a clear picture of how well they had understood the poem and where they needed more support.

Later, the Science Exhibition took place in the auditorium, and I, along with the other trainees, helped the teachers and students throughout the event. Watching the students confidently present their ideas was truly inspiring. We also performed our regular lunch duty before returning to our academic tasks.

The day beautifully combined both teaching and event coordination. Correcting notebooks gave me insight into student learning, while helping in the exhibition reminded me how creativity and science go hand in hand in nurturing young minds.

Day 7 – Saturday, 26 July 2025

Although it was a Saturday, it turned out to be a working day to make up for earlier holidays. The morning was busy as we guided students around the Science Exhibition. However, a sudden power cut led to the postponement of the remaining sessions.

I attended a few classes as per the teacher's instruction and used the free time to prepare lesson plans and organize my materials. Since the school closed early, I couldn’t take my English class that day. Even without a formal class, the day taught me the importance of adaptability — an essential quality every teacher must possess.

Day 8 – Monday, 28 July 2025

Monday started with a renewed sense of energy. The Science Exhibition resumed, and alongside it, a Book Fest organized by Mathrubhumi as part of the English Club brought excitement to the campus. We assisted teachers in both events and guided students around the stalls and exhibits.

During the third and fourth periods, I engaged classes 8N and 9J. I gave them short tasks and activities, distributed notes, and maintained classroom discipline. Though I didn’t follow a full lesson plan that day, it felt rewarding to interact with students in a more informal, activity-based setting. Participating in literary and scientific events side by side showed me how schools nurture not just academic growth but curiosity and creativity in equal measure.

Day 9 – Tuesday, 29 July 2025

The second day of the Book Fest continued with the same liveliness. We helped manage the flow of students visiting the stalls and supported the teachers in organizing activities.

During the sixth period, I took class for 8O, introducing the short story “A Prescription for Life” by Jerome K. Jerome. I shared details about the author, explained the setting, and discussed the first paragraph using ICT tools and a chart. The students were curious and enthusiastic — their responses made the session truly enjoyable. Using digital tools in the classroom made me realize how much they enhance student engagement. It was heartening to see my students respond with such interest.

Day 10 – Wednesday, 30 July 2025

The day began with a quiz competition, and we trainees helped conduct and coordinate the event. After our lunch duty, I continued the story “A Prescription for Life” in class, revising what had been covered earlier and teaching the next paragraph.

The students had done their homework and came well-prepared. Their eagerness to participate made the session lively and interactive. I also spent my free period preparing materials for the coming days.

The sense of progress — both in me and the students’ — was deeply fulfilling. Each class seemed to build a stronger bond between us, and every day felt like a step forward in my journey as a teacher.

Week Two of my teaching practice was full of energy, variety, and learning. From correcting notebooks and managing exhibitions to teaching with ICT support, every experience added a new dimension to my understanding of classroom life. I began to feel more confident — not just about teaching lessons, but about connecting with students, managing events, and balancing multiple responsibilities. Each day reminded me that teaching is not confined to the classroom — it’s about inspiring, guiding, and learning alongside students.
