WEEK 1 TEACHING PRACTICE
Teaching Practice Reflections: Days 1–5
The first five days of my second phase of teaching practice marked an energetic and meaningful beginning. Entering the school during the Kalolsavam season added a vibrant spirit to each day, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and active student participation.
Teaching “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes to Class 8D became the academic focus of these days. The consistent use of ICT played a key role in sustaining students’ interest and improving their understanding of the text. Visuals, glossary explanations, and structured group activities helped students engage deeply with the lesson. Their willingness to discuss, share ideas, and collaborate reflected growing confidence and comprehension.
Alongside teaching, managing additional classes such as 8E and supervising senior classes strengthened my classroom management skills. Handling attendance, maintaining discipline, and keeping students meaningfully engaged through activities gave me valuable practical experience. Lunch duty further helped build a closer rapport with students, allowing interaction beyond the classroom in a warm and informal setting.
Observing and supporting Kalolsavam practices reminded me that education extends beyond textbooks. The students’ enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity highlighted the importance of holistic development alongside academic learning.
Overall, these initial days were productive and encouraging. They reaffirmed my interest in the teaching profession, helped me gain confidence in lesson delivery and classroom management, and set a positive tone for the rest of my teaching practice journey.
