WEEK 3 TEACHING PRACTICE
Teaching Practice Reflections: Days 11–15
Days eleven to fifteen marked a phase of consolidation, assessment, and broader learning beyond the classroom. These days helped me realise how teaching is not just about introducing new content, but also about reinforcing learning, supporting individual needs, and participating in the wider school ecosystem.
Providing prepared notes and checking notebooks allowed me to closely observe students’ learning habits and understanding. Questioning alongside note-giving proved effective in keeping students attentive and reflective. It reminded me that reinforcement plays a crucial role in strengthening comprehension.
Teaching grammar concepts such as determiners and reported speech highlighted the importance of patience and adaptability. While many students understood the concepts quickly, a few required additional explanation and guided practice. Taking time to support them individually helped rebuild their confidence and ensured that no learner was left behind. Watching students move from hesitation to independent application was particularly rewarding.
The Vijnanolsavam day offered a refreshing shift from routine classroom teaching. Observing science exhibits and student presentations reinforced the value of co-curricular activities in nurturing curiosity, creativity, and confidence. It was a strong reminder that meaningful learning also happens outside textbooks and classrooms.
Conducting a diagnostic test was an important learning experience for me as a teacher. Students approached the assessment with sincerity and discipline, and their responses gave me clear insight into their strengths and learning gaps. This reinforced my understanding that assessment is not merely evaluative, but a guide for improving teaching strategies and planning future lessons.
Across these days, balancing teaching, assessment, discipline duties, and school activities strengthened my classroom management skills and professional confidence. Overall, this phase of teaching practice deepened my understanding that effective teaching lies in observation, timely support, consistent reinforcement, and a genuine commitment to students’ holistic growth.
